Cinnamon Apples Chunky Recipe

Cinnamon Apples {Easy, fast, delicious}

Cinnamon applesauce is one of those items you can easily find “organic” at your local store but your kids will pretty much devour a jar in the first 24 hours. There’s not a single store bought brand that compares to my mom’s homemade chunky cinnamon apples. She has served these as a side for every holiday meal.

Unlike applesauce, it is chunky and cooking them down releases all the flavors and natural sugars. It is free of added sugar, citric acid, and you cannot beat the flavor a variety of seasonal apples bring. Seriously, feel free to pick one of every apple as long as you have the punch of Granny Smith and the sweetness of a Honeycrisp. Double the batch of cinnamon apples and freeze it in weekly portions for later storing in these. I also love to add a scoop into my kid’s morning oatmeal.

Here is an instant pot version too. Again, you can use any apples of choice.

This would also be an amazing addition to our pumpkin oatmeal bake.

When you make these, take a picture and tag us over on Facebook and Instagram @nuvitruwellness, so we can see your beautiful creation! P.S. Don’t skimp on the variety of apples. It’s SO worth it!

Cinnamon Apples

Ingredients

  • 2 Granny Smith Apples Organic
  • 2 Honey Crisp Apples Organic
  • 2 Gala Apples Organic
  • 2 Fuji Apples Organic
  • 1 Tsp Cinnamon Ground

Instructions

  • Peel (or don't) apples and cut into large chunks, tossing the core.
  • In a dutch oven or pot on stove, add apples with heat set to medium.
  • Cover and cook down apples for about 20 minutes until softened, stirring occasionally. (Apples release their own juices so you don't need water)
  • Add cinnamon, stir, and serve or refrigerate.
  • * Any apples + any amount can be used in this recipe. I highly recommend at least 1 Granny Smith for tartness. *
