Tropical Matcha Smoothie {Perfect Post-Workout}

Tropical Matcha Smoothie

Tropical Matcha Smoothie {Perfect Post-Workout}

I’m surprisingly not a big tropical fruit smoothie kinda girl but this tropical matcha smoothie came over me on this hot summer morning. I wanted pineapple in my smoothie. Then, I remembered I had leftover matcha powder that I haven’t used. Why not combine these? Tropical matcha smoothie.Usually after a workout, I want my shake to be something chocolate. Chocolate peanut butter. Red velvet. I love that stuff.

I thought all of this at the gym. Food is on my mind constantly. I think it comes with the job because I’m always thinking “recipe creating”. Something new. (Even though everything is taken already – seriously.) Something delicious.

Matcha Benefits

  • Loaded with antioxidants. Antioxidants help reduce the amount of free radicals in our body that can cause damage to our cells. It’s very protective against cancer. A big antioxidant in matcha and green tea is called EGCG. There was a study that showed that regular cow’s milk inhibited the absorption of these antioxidants though due to certain milk proteins. Ideally from a health standpoint and to avoid losing antioxidants, make this latte with almond or coconut milk! A study compared matcha to regular green tea and….

Using a mg catechin/g of dry leaf comparison, results indicate that the concentration of epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG) available from drinking matcha is 137 times greater than the amount of EGCG available from China Green Tips green tea, and at least three times higher than the largest literature value for other green teas.

  • It contains L-Theanine, which is very calming and relaxing to the body. I find that because matcha has this, in addition to caffeine, it helps reduce the jittery feeling that caffeine can give you. (This is personal experience!)
  • It has chlorophyll that helps support the liver in it’s natural detox stages and promote healthy digestion and a great immune system.

Anyways, I was pleasantly surprised with this smoothie and I was happy knowing that I was using a “new green thing” aka matcha and not the regular ol’ organic spinach I’m used to throwing in there.
