Quarantine 15? Falling Off The Wagon During COVID {Episode 227}

Are you worried about gaining quarantine 15? Is this something that you should even be thinking about? During this time where we are at home all day having access to our kitchen 24/7, along with the emotions that change from day to day with what’s going on, how the heck are you supposed to navigate this right now?!

Take a deep breath.

No, for real. Take a deep breath. We’re all in this together. We’re all dealing with emotions and feelings, some of us a little more than others. And you should give yourself a pat on the back that you’re even feeling an emotion toward your health. Because I’ve definitely ran into my fair share of people who honestly don’t give an ounce of crap about their health.

But aside from feeling guilty, we also have to meet our guilt with grace. We’re navigating uncharted territory with today’s situation and we’re allowed to take this time to learn to navigate something like this. So, if you’ve eaten more snacks than you’d like or chose a food that doesn’t serve your body physically, it’s OK. It’s completely okay.

We move forward. We take each day as a new day and make new decisions – don’t allow your guilt from yesterday to come into your day today. Clean slate. Always.

There are things that you can do though to make sure that you aren’t putting yourself in a situation. We have control over that during the quarantine.

Stop Buying Crap During Quarantine

We just need to stop buying crap snacks and food and allow it into our house. Not just for your health, but for your family’s. And can I give a little bit of tough love here? We can’t use kids as an excuse. From what I can see, we’re adults and parents. We make the decision on what to bring in the house and we use OUR finances to do it. While we have lost some control in where we can go and what we have access to, we’ve gained time. Use this time to explore new recipes, new ways to make snacks (because almost all snacks can be made healthier), and if you are still working (I feel you, mama!), there are healthier snacks you can grab at the store/order online.

We just need stop the buying. If it’s not in your house, you won’t eat it and guess where we are eating 95% of the time right now? IN OUR HOUSE.

Switch Your Wine For Tea

Alcohol totally weakens your immune system (which I’m actually going to to talk about later this week) and it’s easy to pour a glass of wine after a hard day of tantrums and work, but it’s even easier to pour a cup of tea. Alcohol also contributes SO much toward that weight you’re worried about gaining. It has a prominent effect on our blood sugar levels and drinking all the time can do some wear + tear on those sweet adrenals that you have, which are already working hard because we’re stressed out! Instead of pouring that glass of wine, heat up some filtered water and dip a tea bag in it!

If you’re feeling stressed out, you can aim for a tulsi (Holy Basil) blend or Kava Stress Relief by Yogi or make a golden milk latte to get those turmeric anti-inflammatory benefits! Start experimenting with herbal teas as your go-to. This habit will keep you healthy even after COVID.

Are You Really Hungry?

Are you really hungry? Or are you bored? Emotional? Thirsty? After a good quality meal, we most likely aren’t hungry. We might just be thirsty or bored. Find new things that you can do at home to keep yourself busy and make sure you drink a ton of water throughout the day. Making a schedule will help keep your day on track – we need to maintain “normalcy” as much as possible! Get your workout in, add in a hobby if you have extra time, go for a walk with the kids, read a book, binge on a new TV show (drink yo’ tea here!), journal, play Barbies/Cars with your kiddos, color, dance, just get out of the pantry.

In-House Accountability Partner During Quarantine

Most of us are stuck in the house with our family, so use this as a time to connect with them and your partner and most importantly, share how you’re feeling and have someone keep you accountable. It’s nice to have someone there to remind you of your goals and keep you busy, if needed.

If you need someone, that’s why we’re here. Sign up as a client and talk to us!

Allow Yourself That Piece of Chocolate

One piece of dark chocolate isn’t going to make you gain 20lbs. Dark chocolate actually has health benefits with being a good source of antioxidants and magnesium. So, at the store, get a really good quality dark chocolate (we love Hu!) and be able to treat yourself. It’s OKAY.

If you’re the type of person that it can be a slippery slope, this might not be a good tip for you. You might need a couple days to take those kinds of foods out and many people who struggle with this tend to feel better and have less cravings when they don’t have treats.

Don’t allow this quarantine to have your health decline – we’ve been granted time to force us to slow down and work on our health. Everyday is a chance for us to get back on the wagon + if we fall off again, we get back on. Your health journey is just that…a journey. You’ll have times you’re slaying it and times you won’t, but in the times that you won’t, use it to learn and more forward with making even better changes.

We are here for you if you need help to get those foundations right!
