27 Sep Caramel Apples {Guilt-Free Indulgence}
You’re probably looking at me like “yeah right, caramel apples can be healthy”. I’m not saying these are super nutrient dense because coconut sugar is still used in the recipe. BUT, it is a much better alternative to regular caramel apples you’d buy or the caramel sauce you’d get in the stores.
That’s what I’m here for, right? To give you a better healthier alternative than most. This is still a sweet, sweet indulgence. The kids loved it when I made it.
One thing I found out….I hate when caramel is on an apple that isn’t cut. Especially with kids. It’s a mess waiting to happen. Caramel on the nose, cheek, mouth, everywhere. It’s too much. I’m more of a ‘neat’ eater and I get like that with my kids because I already clean up SO many messes throughout the day. You can’t judge me on this one.
Store bought carmel sauce is filled with preservatives, dyes, and other artificial ingredients. The recipe I created contains organic, pure ingredients to not disrupt your gut over a fun indulgence. Now I’m not saying this is sugar free haha.
Alright, ready? Set. Go. And don’t forget to tag us on Instagram and Facebook @nuvitruwellness so we can see your yummy creation!
Caramel Sauce
Ingredients
- 1/2 Cup Coconut Milk
- 2 Tbs Butter Grass-Fed Preferred
- 1 Cup Coconut Sugar
- 1 Tsp Vanilla Extract
Instructions
- Over medium heat on the stove, use a pot and heat up the butter and coconut milk.
- After the coconut milk + butter has heated up (not boiling yet), add in the coconut sugar + vanilla extract.
- Whisk frequently to prevent burning on the bottom of the pot. Mix well.
- Once it comes to a boil, turn it down to low/med heat and keep it at a low boil for 5 minutes.
- Take it off the heat and let it cool down. It will thicken as it cools down.
