Infusing Your Water

It’s summer time! And you might be looking to spice up your good ol’ water. I totally get it! There are certain stevia flavor enhancers that you can buy for your water, which you can get at Whole Foods or Sprouts or even Everly! But, one of the easiest ways you can flavor your water is with fruit and herbs that you have in your house right now! Ready to learn how you can start infusing your water?

Before I get to the various combinations that we use, I wanted to go over the basic directions on how to infuse. You can totally get fancy + buy those pitchers that has the fruit tray inside or you can just throw the fruit straight up into the water.

One of the downfalls of the pitchers or bottles that has the infuser tray is that when the water gets low, it can’t reach the infuser. And TIME IS MONEY! The more time the fruit is soaking in the water, the more intense the flavor is…in a good way! So, I recommend just throwing the fruit right in the water. This pitcher is pretty awesome!

How much fruit do you use?

It really depends on your preference. I never measure when I infuse my water. I fill up a cup or pitcher with water first – leave some room at the top because when you start filling it with fruit, it will fill up! 🙂 Measurements change obviously for the size container you are using. So, just test it out + learn what you prefer!

Whole fruit or cut up?

This is an important rule! I can get much more and better flavor when I actually cut the fruit. Don’t throw a whole strawberry in there – cut it into slices. With certain exceptions, like blackberries + raspberries, I will leave them full. I also recommend using fresh over frozen. Now, I love me some frozen fruit, but for infusing my water, I find that fresh works best!

Is organic necessary?

Yes! I’m sure you’ve heard of the rule “if it has a thick skin that you don’t eat, you don’t have to buy organic”. Like lemons or limes or oranges. In this case, since you’re leaving the skin on and soaking in your water…organic is best!
