23 Dec Homemade Oat Milk {Creamy Nut + Dairy Alternative}
Are you seeing oat milk in the coffee shops more often? Have you tried making homemade oat milk? Wondering what this trend is? Well, oat milk is a good option for people who are sensitive or allergic to nuts/tree nuts! It’s actually a favored dairy alternative due to the creaminess that it has similar to dairy! The coffee shops do love it because of the way it froths up for lattes!
Before I teach you how to make your own at home because it’s super easy – you might ask why oat milk? Outside of it being a good alternative for people who have allergies with nuts, it brings in some serious fiber that your gut bugs will love to feed on + help them grow! It’s definitely a milk with more carbohydrate content, but can be a great addition to smoothies after a heavy lifting day when more carbohydrates are needed! Oat milk is also a great source of calcium too!
I definitely recommend getting gluten-free oats because oats can be made in a facility with wheat + other allergens, so it’s best to get oats that are made in a GF facility! If your body doesn’t jive with grains well, oat milk may not be a good alternative for you – so stick with almond milk or coconut milk!
In the directions, you’ll see I have you strain the oat milk through a nut milk bag or cheesecloth. I have Ellie’s Best nut milk bag to strain through the oat milk + I HIGHLY recommend it. It keeps your area clean + it’s super easy to use and clean afterwards! A cheesecloth takes a little more hands on work. 😉
