Amenorrhea means that a woman has lost her cycle. She hasn’t had her period in one or more months. This isn’t always permanent, but it’s important to dive deep into the root cause of why your body doesn’t think it’s a great idea to ovulate and have your cycle!
There isn’t a particular specific amount of exercise that causes amenorrhea. But some red flags of overexercising are working out multiple times per day, working out 6+ days per week. In addition to exercising (even normal amounts), but severely restricting calories and dieting can cause amenorrhea. Your body will start to prioritize the small energy you take in (+ that means stopping ovulation!).
Without a period, that means ovulation isn’t regular. If ovulation is an issue, you will have issues getting pregnant!
Amenorrhea means that your period is gone and your sex hormones, estrogen and progesterone, are going to be out of sync. Cortisol (stress hormone) can also contribute to amenorrhea.
If you have amenorrhea, there is a high chance your hormones are out of wack, which can contribute to weight gain. Amenorrhea clients tend to have slow metabolism due to what brought them to amenorrhea in the first place (potentially over exercising and under eating). Slow metabolism = higher chance of weight gain
It’s unknown if amenorrhea causes cancer, but there is a studied increased risk of cancer when women struggle with amenorrhea. It’s time to bring back those cycles, ladies!
Lost periods CAN come back! It’s all about getting down to the root cause of why amenorrhea is happening!
It alllll depends on what the person is doing to achieve regular periods! Are you working on figuring out the root cause of why this happened? Are you focusing on diet + lifestyle changes? This will all determine how long amenorrhea can happen.
